Well, okay, the punchline's not really funny. I'm looking for three models, one of each basic type of sport horse, for a series of videos abut photographing horses. There are several parts to the videos, and I expect each session will take 3-4 hours. The plan is to create a how-to video clinic that expands on my "Creating Representational Images" workshop, and will show you the basic of how to create images of horses for sale or stallions at stud. In the clinic, I will cover:
- Why it's important to use images that make a clear, professional impression in an instant
- How to set up images using light, framing, and background
- A short bit about equipment
- The basics of photographing conformation, headshots, and movement
- How to find the "right" timing for different types of movement
- Some common problems and how to solve them
Here is what I'm looking for in the way of models:
- This is a video about sport horses, so I need dressage and hunter/jumper horses.
- I would like to find horses in the Madison-ish area - no more than 30 miles from Fitchburg, WI.
- The videos need to be done outside on a nice day if at all possible.
- An area with a simple background is important.
- Horses do not need to have upper level training, but they should have good basic gaits and be solid under saddle and in the connection.
- Show clothes are not desired - attire should be conservative, as though you're going to a clinic. No leg wraps.
- Horses need to be shed out or clipped and looking show-ready (braiding is optional). However, I'd like to do a "before-and-after," so I'll need images and footage of your horse before they're groomed and tacked.
In exchange for modeling, I'm happy to give you one image to print and share online. You're welcome to purchase additional images and/or video as well. So, if you have a Friesian/Iberian/PRE or warmblood or Thoroughbred horse and don't mind doing a little work and spending half a day on camera, let me know! I'd like to have the footage from all three horses by the end of May at the latest so I can start putting everything together. If all goes well, I'll have some great materials for a live workshop over the summer!
